Caffeinated Tea Blend
We are all familiar with yellowed book pages or other staining that can come from years on shelves or in other precarious places. Well, you can in fact wash a book! This is done by completely disbinding it and putting each folio (sheet of paper that is folded to make the pages) through a series of pH neutral baths to gently draw the staining and dirt out of the book. When you have gone through this process, you dry and press and then can completely rebind the book and while it won't be as new, it will be much cleaner and whiter than before. And if you happen to boil down the water from the baths you are left with book dirt-the leftover "pigment" from the cleaning process.
This tea blend that is a cheeky nod to this process as when you boil down the liquid you get a curiously sweet aroma from the pages-a concentrated version of the good old book smell we all know and love which is actually caused by the breaking down of books. What is breaking down in these old wood pulp based papers is the chemical lignin which gives off a faint vanilla scent.
This tea blend is a black tea, pu-erh, and hojicha blend to give us depth, sweetness, and a touch of toastiness which is then blended with vanilla bean for a final cozy sweet lingering flavor.
The flavors and scent will change as the tea steeps, so be sure to take some time while your brew infuses to experience the journey.
